Using two different types of male-sterility in Capsicum, MS₁ induced by Peterson and MS₂ selected from Korean local variety, Soudong, their hereditary transmission and mutual relations were studied with various pepper varieties. The results obtained were summarized as follows;
In MS₁ line cytoplasmic gene S₁ and recessive homozygous nuclear gene ms₁, S₁ms₁ms₁, revealed male sterility. But in MS₂ line cytoplasmic gene S₂ and nuclear gene ms₂ homozygote, S₂ms₂ms₂ were necessary for male sterile revelation.
From the mutual relation cytoplasmic gene S₁ and nuclear gene ms₁ms₂, S₁ms₁ms₂, give rise to male sterile, while in cytoplasmic gene S₂ nuclear gene ms₁ms₂, S₂ms₁ms₂, was male-fertile.
Therefore, when the maintainer line Nms₁ms₁ was backcrossed to S₁ms₁ms₁ line, the progeny fertility was all male sterile and backcrossed ones to S₂ms₂ms₂ line were all male fertile.
