Studies on Two Types of Male Sterility in Capsicum Annuum L.

Abstract
Using two different types of male-sterility in Capsicum, MS©û induced by Peterson and MS©ü selected from Korean local variety, Soudong, their hereditary transmission and mutual relations were studied with various pepper varieties. The results obtained were summarized as follows;
In MS©û line cytoplasmic gene S©û and recessive homozygous nuclear gene ms©û, S©ûms©ûms©û, revealed male sterility. But in MS©ü line cytoplasmic gene S©ü and nuclear gene ms©ü homozygote, S©üms©üms©ü were necessary for male sterile revelation.
From the mutual relation cytoplasmic gene S©û and nuclear gene ms©ûms©ü, S©ûms©ûms©ü, give rise to male sterile, while in cytoplasmic gene S©ü nuclear gene ms©ûms©ü, S©üms©ûms©ü, was male-fertile.
Therefore, when the maintainer line Nms©ûms©û was backcrossed to S©ûms©ûms©û line, the progeny fertility was all male sterile and backcrossed ones to S©üms©üms©ü line were all male fertile.
